Awards, in Covid times

The SAB, Disability Empowerment and Social Innovation Awards are one of the highlights of the year where amazing people inspire us with amazing ideas, solutions, and technology. A new addition of the RAM awards that tackle anti-social alcohol use was an interesting addition given how the government imposed such harsh bans on the alcohol industry during the last 20 or so months.

I can’t say I was looking forward to them too much first thing this morning after a diagnosis of a fractured rib (probably just a hairline crack in the initial x-rays), and a ruptured blood vessel in my belly, but as the day wore on, the jab of cortisone (yuk) and anti-inflammatory meds in me bum kicked in, and with the support of a lycra winter vest, I made it through three hours of sitting in a less than comfortable “event” style chair, even if I was a tad warm.

R10,650,000 were awarded to the finalists, with a five year program of business support that has seen 93% of them surviving even the worst of our Covid times.

Definitely inspiring, but I now need to sleep, please!
