Today's the day ........................ for a discovery
You might have thought that Will had had enough whisky in his life after the goings-on on Saturday night - but no. He told me that he had ordered a bottle of a malt that he particularly liked, from a special bonded warehouse in Creetown. It was ready for him to collect today and he asked if I wanted to go with him.
It turned out to be a very unusual place - and not just for the whisky. There were big wooden barrels everywhere. The ones full of whisky, that presumably was slowly maturing, were piled high up to the rafters of an enormous warehouse. And then outside, there were thousands of empty ones (see extra) awaiting some fate - as yet unknown.
But the even more unexpected thing was that in another part of the site there was a sculpture trail? It was a bit run down and overgrown - but the sculptures were unmistakably the work of Ronald Rae. We'd seen some of his work at Threave Gardens a few weeks ago and had really admired it. This is a quote that was written at the start of the trail which sums up his philosophy -
'Stones dream of shapes they might become, the sculptor has but to listen ......... '
