Stormbringer

This is what we have to deal with in the wake of Storm Arwen - two cracked fence panels and a bit of snow. In truth, we have got away very lightly as I have friends who are still without electricity four days after the event, fallen trees are all around and I know of several people who have damage to their houses.
An examination of the fence panels served only to confirm my feelings that they are long past the point at which they should have been replaced, but that is not an option at the moment. Instead, a couple of bits of wood have been screwed across the breaks, a few extra nails have been hammered in to hold the really loose bits in place and the panel that had slipped out of its posts has been put back, albeit with some jeopardy as it had very little structural integrity, even after the fitting the bracing pieces, and I had to lift it quite high up to slot it between the posts. But it went in without too much of a struggle and, as long as we don’t get another storm, should last until next summer, when replacement of the whole fence might be considered.
Other than that, it’s been a fairly quiet day. The blinds people turned up as promised, so we now have the correct length vanes in the kitchen and a full set of blinds in the study. And the antique cabin trunk which belonged to Mrs C’s grandfather and has been under wraps in the garage whilst all the decoration took place, has been brought back inside to be subjected to a thorough cleaning before returning to its home in the lounge. It’s going to be a long job though, as all the leather straps are dry and cracked so a goodly dollop of leather food has been applied and left to soak in overnight.
The lounge is looking a bit cluttered at the moment as we still have half the study furniture in there as well as the aforementioned trunk. Hopefully the arrival of the desk/bed tomorrow will enable a lot of that clutter to be removed from the lounge and allocated a home in the study. And it’s meant to be getting warmer as well, so that should get rid of the remaining snow.
