Crooks Like Us

Inspired by historian Peter Doyle’s City of Shadows: Sydney Police Photographs 1912-1948, which drew on the photographic archive held at the Justice and Police Museum. The wonderful thing about these early police mugshots is that people posed and smiled for the camera. It might’ve been their only experience being photographed.

I gave a friend the follow-up, Crooks Like Us. Straightaway, her mother recognised her great-uncle (a thief, it turned out) who they’d all been told “went to New Zealand”.

Having something approaching a 1930s look, Mr SF kindly agreed to model.

Thanks for hosting Carolina. It was a fun challenge.
