Christmas baking

Another very cold day, barely above freezing, but at least we have power and are warm indoors. Just noticed (9pm) there is now a  light  dusting of snow outside. It seemed  the perfect  day to bake our  Christmas cake, which I did this afternoon, while my husband nobly did some boring housework.However, I did let him stir the  cake and make a wish. (once he'd washed his hands, of course!) This year, I decided to decorate the cake  with whole almonds, rather than have the faff of applying almond paste and royal icing, but we'll still be "feeding" it with brandy over the coming few weeks to ensure  it doesn't dry out.
