Two in hand
When there are ten bells but only nine ringers, the offer of one person to ring two bells at the same time, one in each hand, is welcome. It is incredibly hard, much like tapping your head and rubbing your stomach and few people can do it. Unfortunately this attempt was unsuccessful. More successful was today’s attempt to ring a quarter peal of plain Bob minor which was achieved in 45 minutes after the service. It was particularly gratifying as the treble ringer missed a catch on the sally after about 20 minutes and lost control of her bell. This would normally have meant the whole method collapsing in a heap but four of the ringers were very experienced and able to shout out rapid instructions to get everybody into the right positions again and back on track. The method was not therefore lost.
