Hidden Gem
Took Daisy and Casper down toward Moulin Huet today and because some of the trees were thinned out slightly by the gales, I could see this little old cottage through the remaining foliage.
A quick detour between the trees and bushes and there it was.
The remains of an ancient little two room cottage with a commanding view of Petit Port Bay.
To the left of this cottage is a really nice flat platform which has the remains of a gun emplacement both ancient and modern'ish.
It had a steel rail around it sitting on a concrete base indicating German Occupation but this was sat on top of a granite version and the area was flagged with granite which is more Napoleonic.
It would have been a perfect place to protect the bay from intruders using cannon or more modern equipment.
No1 son and I suspect that the occupants of the cottage were ejected during the war to make way for the gun emplacement and perhaps never returned to the island.
It is a bit of a mystery like the secret garden.
