The icy water...

....coruscating in the rays of the sun as it breaks through the clouds...

Would that be the correct use of the word "coruscating"? Doe the sun coruscate or does the water? Whatever, I will look it up...

I love that word "coruscate". I came across it for the first time in a Peter May novel ... It was so unusual -  a word I had never heard or read before; he used it in a context that made its meaning obvious..so I didn't bother looking it up. I have read a lot of Peter May's novels since then and noticed that in each of them, he used that word at least once - but usually only once.. to the point that I mentioned it to my fellow avid reader Mary. Then she started noticing it too..and she would call me from the east coast to report that she had found it again in one of his books!

Now how weird is that? We both read voraciously and have NEVER come across that word in another novel...It stands out for that reason..to be sure, if we ever come across it in the works of another author, we will indeed notice it and phone each other immediately to report it!

Anyway, I love how it rolls off the tongue..cor-us-cat-ing.....dancing ever so twinkly and sparkly across my imagination...

Obviously not much happened today - or I would not be writing about a word!  Had some disconcerting news though - seems our town is considering a bylaw to prohibit feeding wildlife in our back yards.. no feeding of squirrels or chipmunks  - or probably raccoons and rabbits ..although they weren't mentioned...BUT,  I am also afraid it will include birds. Apparently any food source  - including bird seed? - attracts other animals like coyotes..which have become a hazard up here - biting people for no apparent reason...We do have a rat problem now too, so I can see that there is a good reason for this. If we are not going to be allowed bird feeders, I guess next spring I had better add some plants, trees or shrubs to my back yard that will provide food for birds - and only for birds...ideas anyone?
