Transformation, almost

The transformation relates to Castlemilk park on the southern boundary of Glasgow, until recently an area that many folk would go out of their way to avoid because of gangland activity. Our walk was led by the Community Woodland Officer employed by the Housing Association – a unique post in Scotland. I think it is fair to say that Stuart Whittaker has significantly contributed to the transformation of the area, and more over people’s perception of the area. He has encouraged and supported community involvement working with the City of Glasgow to make a wonderful greenspace bursting with wildlife. Incredibly we saw the unmistakable kingfisher flash of green within minutes of walking beside the pond, followed by a tree creeper and a big group of long tailed tits. The highlight for me was “badger city” (the extra) snuggled between two sets of housing developments.
Well worth forgoing Saturday yoga, but gosh it was cold.
