1970: Japanese author Yukio Mishima dies by suicide
Quote Of The Day
"Most writers are perfectly normal in the head and just carry on like wild men; I behave normally but I'm sick in the head."
(Yukio Mishima)
Yesterday each year group put up a display of art created during the first term of this school year. Tomorrow a winner will be announced for each year group at the Visual Arts Showcase assembly.
If one aspect of genius is the ability to write a deeply disturbing and unsettling novel without recourse to cheap, lurid shock tactics, then Mishima is certainly a genius. Reading his books is the literary equivalent of watching a David Cronenberg film; a cold, analytical, piercing and brilliant intellect in a somewhat deranged mind. Read with caution. Or watch Paul Schrader's brilliant biopic, if for no other reason than to enjoy Philip Glass' awesome soundtrack.
