Edna and her keeper
This is Edna, a barn owl who was rescued as a chick and hand reared by a vet. She now lives at Deen City Farm in Merton, south London. Today as it was Easter Sunday they brought her and a few other animals over to Morden Hall Park to meet people. She is very good with people and seemed to enjoy being stroked. Her feathers were incredibly soft. They let her fly every day but the rest of the time she stays perched, as per their normal behaviour in the wild. She is noisier than wild barn owls though, screeching quite a lot apparently just to attract attention.
I did go to the gig last night and I survived it with a bit of paracetamol and a position leaning against a wall where I could sit down if I needed. I also wore my earplugs for a lot of it (special ones for music which just take the edge off the volume). It was really good. In the past year I've seen The Gaslight Anthem four times, but still really enjoyed it and Japandroids were the support band, who I've been listening to quite a lot recently. Confusingly they're from Canada.
Apart from a mishap on the way when we ended up on a DLR going the wrong way and the freezing cold wait for a train at midnight to do the last part of the journey home, it went fairly smoothly.
Today I felt better until I tried to run for a bus, when I felt like I was going to collapse. I'm sure I'm not this unfit, I just can't seem to get the energy to where it needs to be in my body. I was carrying a heavy camera too which didn't help I suppose. We went to Morden Hall Park and Deen City Farm, which are lovely places and free to visit. I'd definitely recommend if you're in the south west London kind of area, or even if you're from further afield.
Tomorrow will be a day of rest before the inevitable back to work on Tuesday.
