Changing landscape
Woke up feeling like we were in an episode of the Archers. The campsite was the local cricket pitch and camping was allowed along the perimeter! If the local team hadn't been knocked out last weekend we could have watched from bed!For only 5 dollars a night we had a modern toilet block with hot showers, washing up facilities with hot & cold water, washing machine use for only 2 dollars & rotary drier, recycling, rubbish trailer, compost facilities, free charging for phones, ipads etc, use of the outside sofas and chairs and free sunscreen. This is as good at it gets for us camping!
Stayed the night with the very hospitable Roz and Dave (friends of Rich and Amiti) in Albert Town. Yola got the guest accommodation and was v cosy in a double bed, ensuite, TV, internet and kitchen.....we were in Stan! Had some of just Dave's just caught crayfish (rock lobster) for supper. Divine. Sloshed down with lots of lovely local cab sav too, people know how to live here!
On the road to Queenstown.
Have managed to get dates and pics in a minor muddle, the time difference has made me loose a day, so for the purpose of trying to keep a few of the events in order, plus having written up the blog on the ipad in the absence of any available internet for days this is Monday, again, I think!
The planned bike ride was abandoned due to inclement weather. We waited far too long to make a plan and ended up going for a late walk and not leaving Roz and Dave's until late afternoon.
Plan; To visit Duncan (another fine friend of Rich and Amiti's) at his vineyard outside Queenstown to collect some veno.
Stunning drive over the Cardrona mountains with its ski fields, hair pin alpine roads and sweeping valleys.Breathtaking.
Mount Edward winery and Duncan turned out to be a bit of a stunner. We had the warmest of welcomes from Duncan, plenty of THE MOST DIVINE Pinot Blanc, then Reisling and he left us with an unopened bottle of Pinot Noir......and his entire huge swanky pad, all his wine and his internet! We watched a bog standard stunning sunset on the balcony, surrounded by lavender and then hundreds of acres of vines, later we curled up by roaring log fire in big leather armchairs, ate his home cured Hammon and listened to v good music through his excellent sound system. In my jolly state I had to face time my brother to show off!!
