Some of our staff went to London last week. One of them has spent the pandemic in a western US town so small that bears roam the street freely, breaking into garbage cans. She said being in London, at the conference, where no one social distanced or wore masks, was freaky. She was given, for free, a bunch of take home Covid tests. They are still hard to find here. 

The CDC has a list of countries Americans should not go to even if vaccinated: Hungary, Iceland, Czech Republic, Britain, Germany, and Denmark. 

Iceland is 78% fully vaccinated. Denmark is 76% fully vaccinated. 

Portugal is 87% fully vaccinated!! Portugal has a low level of cases although it has been increasing as the weather gets cooler. 

You remember the riot in Charlottesville that had good people on both sides? A jury has just found the organizers liable for the violence and awarded over $25 million (which they don't have).

The law on conspiracy in Virginia does not require that they know each other or have ever met, only that they shared an objective and could foresee the violence. 

The men who killed Ahmaud Arbery for running while Black are on trial. The jury is deliberating now. They claimed self-defense. 

When women are abused, they typically are not allowed to argue self-defense. 

In Britain all new buildings will have to have electric vehicle chargers starting next year. By 2030 there will be no more gas or diesel cars sold? 

I look at my garden and I see my lovely curving stone path surrounded by contrasting dark mulch. My hostas and hydrangeas are yellowing but there is so much greenery out there, plus the red leaf carpet, that it is still a joy to look at.
