What a day!
On the one hand, grey, miserable overcast and on-off rain, but on the other, wonderfully relaxing, super warm and cosy. How? Well, because Graham and I spent all afternoon and evening at Paşa restaurant in Akbuk treating the place like home! The restaurant was almost empty, and after a late lunch we sat in rocking chairs in front of a roaring fire nursing a beer and playing with phones and laptops, (pretending to be busy), whilst being completely aghast as we watched the rapid free fall of the Turkish lira - live coverage on Bloomberg TV. Dinner, this evening, was literally cheaper (in sterling equivalent) than lunch had been.
The rain stopped long enough for me to take a late afternoon stroll along the sea front where for the first time I saw the Greek Orthodox church, never noticed before, tucked behind some trees. Renovated in 2007, it seems to be abandoned now. Sadly, I couldn't find out any further information about it, but I took several photos of this once very nice building.
Back home tonight and the lira seems to have stabilized at 17ish to the pound. Inflation is going to rise rapidly, and those of us who must live on a Turkish lira income are in for a tough time while those of us with access to foreign currencies are about to have considerable extra spending power.
