463 feet above The River Clyde

This morning took me up to the Lyle Hill in Greenock.

Lyle Hill affords spectacular views over the Firth of Clyde and up to Ben Lomond. On the summit of the hill stands the Cross of Lorraine, a memorial to the Free French Armed Forces stationed in Greenock during the Second World War.

The name Lyle has local connections, most prominently Abram Lyle, born in 1820, who founded the sugar refining company which merged with a rival in 1920 to form Tate & Lyle, and was Provost of Greenock from 1876 to 1879. However the name of the hill predates his successes, as it appears as Lyle's Hill in James Knox's Map of the Basin of the Clyde of 1836.

Another glorious day. Dad and I went to church and then we all went to lunch at The Beacon. Delicious and beautifully presented.

We took a run home via the Lochs Gryffe, Thom and Compensation...playground of my youth. Returning there is good for my soul...and my dad's!! Will go back up for a long walk tomorrow along the Kelly Cut!

Happy Easter folks!
