Zebra

Two pubs hotels in Penicuik have competing claims to James Cossar Ewart. The Craigiebield (pictured) is the house that he built and lived in for 50 years, and the Navaar 100m away was the site of the breeding experiments with horses and zebras that he carried out to show that "the theory of telegony inherited from the Greeks was unsound. Telegony held that a female with a history of mating with multiple males would pass on genetic qualities of all previous partners to her offspring."

Appropriately, both hostelries have black-and-white architectural features. Whilst the Craigie has better food, the Navaar has better beer.

I missed the beautiful morning, and only got out with Django after dinner.
