The Ring of Brodgar

As you can see, we arrived at this Neolithic site as the sun went down. My image shows just a few of the stones in a circle that was built around 2500BC.
It is impressive.

We were at the minibus for 0930 but the step would not go under and the van could not move! There was a lot of discussion about how to fix it. In the end, repeated kicks seemed to get the thing going again!

Our first call was to Birsay with a wonderful rocky shore and terrific waves breaking as they came in. I could have stayed much longer than our allocated hour.

Then to the Northern Go, pronounced quite distinctively. Here the birds swooped alongside a narrow inlet of sheer cliffs.

Lunch was at the very busy Birsay cafe where the soup was thick and delicious and the scones were terrific. Then they produced plates of fancies! I thought we would not be able to move afterwards!!

We had visited the Ring of Brodgar and the Standing Stones at Steness before the day was over. A surprise extra was the little known Happy Valley where one man planted trees. Yes, on Orkney.

One extra shows a boiling sea and another shows a fern in front of the cottage in Happy Valley. I’m not happy with the processing but it is all I can do for now.

Our group Is forming its own coherence. I think I now have everyone’s name, including Isla the Bosnian rescue dog. She is a quiet, easy going animal and very attached to Ute, her owner.
