I?ve nae a Scooby Doo where Humpty Doo is, do you

As the registrations pour in for our Kiltwalk events its exciting to find out where everyone is traveling from.

As you would imagine, the majority are traveling from all over Scotland to walk for Oor Bairns however we also have a decent number traveling up from England and from the Emerald Isle, which is impressive.

However our furthest Kiltwalkers to date are traveling from Spain and Germany to take part, so surely that now makes us a truly 'International' event :-)

So it looked like Germany and Spain were the winner,s until we got three registrations from a place called "Humpty Doo".

Now to use a bit of West of Scotland rhyming slang "ah hivnae a Scoody Doo where Humpty Doo is" and I have to say I thought it was a few people having a bit of a laugh, however just as I was about to delete them I noticed that the country, listed was Australia!!

With the wonderful invention that is Google, I was able to find out that Humpty Doo is in fact a small town in Australia's Northern Territory, with a population of around 5,413.

Hardly believing my eyes I immediately emailed Lynn Bramham, who was listed as the main contact.

Given the time difference I was gob smacked even further to receive a prompt reply from Lynn who after my usual interrogation techniques, told me her story.

It turns out Lynn is an Irvine lass who emigrated many years ago and is planning to surprise her parents with a 9 day visit Scotland in April. To quote her words she "likes to do something different" when she comes back to Scotland and has previously taken part in the Arran Half Marathon and climbed Ben Nevis.

Lynn found out about The Kiltwalk online and decided it was the ideal challenge for her, her daughter Sarah and son Jack, who is at university in Adelaide, although she's not too sure they'll see it that way, but hey, it will be a nice surprise for them when they arrive :-)

Lynn went on to explain that Humpty Doo, which is around 35kms outside Darwin, is a great place to live and that you soon get used to wallabies in the garden, possums in the eves of the veranda and snakes in the rabbits cage. Then of course there's the crocodiles in the river!!

Call me a coward, however I think I'll give visiting Humpty Doo a miss.

Today's picture was taken a few months ago just after they received their Oor Wullie and Broons annuals from back home. If it was taken at Xmas then surely there should have been snow :-)
