Gargoyles

I walked passed our church today while on an errand. The light picked out the steeple and the carvings were much more noticeable than usual. I don’t know if these are actual gargoyles or just gargoyle like.

However, it got me reflecting on the fact that when we travelled at home and abroad visiting some of the great cathedrals it was usual to photograph such statuary, some dating from medieval times. Yet this is a building constructed in the latter part of the 19th century in Victorian times and this type of ornamentation seemed appropriate.
