Highland cathedral
Yet another grey day. We walked down to the town for a coffee morning at the Cathedral Church of St John the Divine, Oban's Episcopal Church.
The Assistant Curate had written round to Oban's various groups to invite them to this coffee morning to chat and think about the results of COP26 and to provide information for a display. Some of us in 'Keep Oban Beautiful' wrote a few notes and sent in a poster with our words on it.
It's an interesting building, originally begun in 1863 and added to in various ways until some time in WW1, I believe, when money ran out and development of the Cathedral, as it became, had to stop. Because it was uncompleted, steel girders had to be installed to hold the whole thing together, which has rather spoilt the interior.
We had a good wander round, chatted with various folk and I enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate! Not such a good turnout as was expected, I think, but the exhibition is open for the next week - I think they hope it will be added to.
This is Oban's second cathedral - the other is St Columba's Catholic cathedral. No wonder Oban is putting itself forward to be designated a city!
