Cat city
My last full day in Istanbul, Caitlin came with me for another out and about day. We took the ferry from Arnavutkoy to Besiktas where we waited for the bus that goes directly to Bomonti. Just as yesterday except that today, waiting passengers were entertained by the council's pressure cleansing and disinfecting of the bus stop - the level of covid prevention cleansing here is very good.
Having arrived in Bomonti we walked around the area where the flat is, and then went to Souper restaurant for a light lunch before continuing our strolling about. Discoveries included a very nice 'gourmet' shop selling most if not all of the foodstuffs I ever buy, except beer, a very important food group for me - but it's available elsewhere locally, so that's ok. No bars in the area though, but we found a nice coffee shop. Also, plenty of cats and heart warming places where the locals have created cosy cat shelters .
The weather was cold, so having seen enough, rather than wait for the bus, we took a cab to Levent and went to Ozdelik shopping centre, then used the metro to Gayretepe for Zorlu centre where I bought a bag and Caitlin bought some things from the Apple store. Taxi back to college campus where I was sad to see workmen felling a tree, so I soon went out again to avoid the noise of the chainsaw and breaking boughs falling, and for the second time today, took the ferry from Arnavutkoy to Besiktas. The next two hours were spent at Joker 19 bar for a couple of draft beers and their delicious pesto pizza before taking the ferry back to campus. Waiting for the ferry, Mr Ginger Puss worked the passengers, moving from lap to lap for cuddles. I saw this yesterday too, at the bus stop, where a tabby cat just went from lap to lap as people sat waiting for their bus. Istanbul really is a city of cats.
