Strathaven town mill
The Mill was built in the grounds of Strathaven Castle around 1650 by the 2nd Duke of Hamilton. It was three storey high with a thatched roof and a large dam behind. In 1902, a large granary was built adjacent to the Stonehouse Road connected to the Mill by an aerial walkway. In the 1930's the Mill was converted to hydroelectricity and was officially re-opened in 1936 by Sir Harry Lauder. The Town Mill finally ceased production in 1966. It was converted into a theatre and Arts Centre in the 1970's and is currently undergoing refurbishment
