North Berwick, Here we Come!
Different beach, but no cozzie and no sunrise.
The Merry Widows gathered just after 9am to journey to North Berwick for a day out. We took the bus because it’s free, although the train would have been 100% quicker, sitting in pole position upstairs to get a better view of the exploding housing estates on the way there. The song ‘Little boxes, little boxes, little boxes made of ticky tacky…..and they all look just the same’ came to mind.
Needless to say after an hour on the bus round all the houses, our first stop was a café. Thus fortified, I, with more knowledge of North Berwick, led an expedition to see the rose garden and the aviary in the Lodge gardens with a walk round the perimeter for good measure.
Then it was down to the beach and a leisurely walk round the footpath on the rocks by the old outdoor swimming pool before walking along the beach dodging the incoming tide.
Lunch was in a strangely quiet Seabird Centre - I think you could call it a frugal lunch as befits those of a certain vintage.
Our team leader had consulted Google for the bus timetable back to Edinburgh, so, although not in pole position on the top deck, we still had a comprehensive viewing of the other side of the road as the light faded and houses switched on lights - nothing nosier then seeing the inside of rooms before curtains are drawn.
It was a beautiful day, sunny, albeit with a nippy west wind. A grand day away from the travel chaos in Edinburgh.
