…… Mum has some things in her flat that have always been part of our family life. This ‘nutcracker’ - although it’s never been used as such was made by my grandfather (my dad’s father) who was a pattern maker working a foundry in Sheffield. Born in the late 19th century he was apprenticed for 7 years and on completion became a member of the Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brassiers - hope I’ve got that right!
