Castle Drogo

“Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”
Carl Jung
The last time we visited here the place was shrouded in scaffolding and only a few interior rooms were open; today only a few scaffolding remnants remained around the entrance and there were plenty of interior rooms to wander through. But we hear there are still problems with water penetration.
Nearly twenty years in the making, it was smaller than originally envisaged but is still imposing, the last castle built in England apparently, commanding views over the Teign gorge below.
In one of the rooms I saw a reference to the Bed of Dreams by Philip Moore who said “As a teenager trying to work out where my life might take me I can remember flying my kite high in the sky while I dreamt of what the future might hold for me.” Intrigued, I thought I’d find out a little more but to my surprise when I did a Google search I came across another Philip Moore, ‘The Spirit-Trained Visionary Artist from Guyana’. He had dreamed, around 1955 – the year I was born - ‘that a large hand reached down to him from the heavens, and a voice commanded him to begin his career as an artist. This is the reason Moore considers himself “spirit-taught”. (https://folkart.org/mag/philip-moore). My dream  catapulted me from a career in Quantity Surveying to Freelance Photography over twenty years ago; the power of dreams as a catalyst to change is amazing.
