Red Bull Hill Chasers

Had a very cycling-orientated day today. Starting off with a rather interesting couple of presentations about The Future of Cycling at the Science Festival. The first one looked specifically at the future of mountain biking in Scotland (I learned that mountain biking brings in £49 million a year!). The second talk was by to men from Oxford Brookes University who have designed, built and are in the process of testing a bamboo bike.

After that there was a short trip to recharge my camera battery before heading up to Victoria Street to get a good spot to watch the Red Bull Hill Chasers event. This basically involves anyone who's fast enough to qualify, plus ten of the world's best cyclists, peddling their wee hearts out up the awful, cobbly hill, to see who's fastest. There were road bikes, mountain bikes, bmx bikes and anything in between. The P.A. system was particularly clear, so I'm not actually sure who won, but we did see the talented Mr. Danny Macaskill wheely-ing down the hill so that was pretty cool.

Went to see Welcome To The Punch afterwards which was pretty good, and definitely worth seeing, but not sure if it's better than Trance.
