Benmore Dam

The weather wasn't so great this morning so we had a lazy morning, after lunch we drove up to the Benmore Dam which is the biggest earth dam in The Southern Hemisphere. The water it holds back is Lake Benmore and is glacier fed hence the turquoise colour.
Lots of people were making the most of the sunny afternoon hooning around in their boats.
There are people camping all along the lake edge.
There was no water going down the slipway ( bottom left corner) but when there is, its a spectacular sight as it hits a concrete wall and sprays high up in the air, creating rainbows.
Electricity is made at various stations all along this stretch of water as it heads from the mountains to the sea.
