Tyr

All went to Glasgow tonight. Met Lynn and headed over to the Cathouse to see a couple of bands. Craig had bought the tickets months ago and he was really looking forward to it. We arrived just in time to see the end of the first act, but plan had been to get there before Tyr went o stage. Viking metal! Lots of chain mail and axes, swirling hair and growling but strong melodies and fantastic harmonies. Accompanied by the second band, Alestorm, they played a rousing chorus of Wild Rover too.

Wasn't quite so impressed by Alestorm. From Perth (Scotland), they describe themselves as a band that sings pirate songs. There was much support in the audience for the idea if the dress was anything to go by. Lots of bandanas, stripey teashirts and other eighteenth century sea faring head gear. Even saw a few swords and a parrot. The band itself was fairly tight, but I felt that they tried a little bit too hard to be macho. Unlike Tyr they weren't content to let the music speak for itself.

Craig loved the way everybody at the gig joined in and supported all the bands. Doesn't always happen this way and it spoils the night so, all said a good night.

This blip gives a bit of an idea, was all a bit dark though, so apologies for the image. My phone couldn't cope!
