Not Domestic Bliss!
Back blip
About the leak in our kitchen on Friday night, which I blipped about yesterday: we discovered it was a leak in the extendable hose in the kitchen tap and so when the hose part wasn't pulled out but the tap was running, the water from the leak went back down the tap! Still with me? There's more though. We found this out because when Bb arrived home and he went outside to check that the leak wasn't coming from the corner cubby hole on the patio, where we have the gas boiler, a sink and other bits and bobs of cleaning and gardening stuff, he noticed that our gas boiler didn't look on. He went to check the water pressure that sometimes needs adjusting and suddenly water started pouring from the boiler! He pulled out the electric plug, turned off the water at the mains and I ran round the corner to try and catch our local water /gas /electrician man, who was just pulling down the shutters of his shop. He came back with me, checked it all out and thought it needed a new safety valve. However, if that's what it was, he thought we should look at a new boiler as it would be better in the long run. Crikey!! Not what we expected or wanted. He'd send us a quote over the weekend. In the meantime, we were left with no hot water or heating. Mmm.
Back to the leak! He then looked under the kitchen sink, inspected everything and discovered the leak (s) in the extendable tap hose. Of course with his pulling and probing, the leak from the hose is now much worse and as we have to keep that hose part extended out all the time now, all the little leaks spray everywhere!! We have it wrapped in a teatowel temporarily till he finds us a replacement - hopefully at the start of the week.
On Saturday morning we decided to call the gas company, with whom we have a gas service contract, just to get a second opinion. This chap managed to do a temporary repair to get it working and told us to keep an eye on the pressure and if there's a problem to bleed the radiators and if that doesn't work, then it's a new safety valve or a new boiler. Same advice, better to get a new boiler. And that's where we're at!!
They say things come in 3s of course and the 3rd thing (but actually the first to happen) was the cancellation of the attempt to have another course before Christmas. I got an email from Switzerland telling me in the afternoon. Not great news, but at, least the leak and boiler problem took my mind off it on Friday.
My photo has no connection to the gas boiler or leak, but an emergency blip as I didn't have one at night.
