I heard that there were now two little auks at Scapa pier so I cycled down, but all I found were two black guillemots (or 'tysties')  I don't know if the little auks had departed or it was a case of mistaken identity. I have cropped right in to this bird for the patterns made by its feathers.  It is in winter plumage and much paler than it is during breeding season, if you were wondering why it is called a black guillemot.
