Caerlaverock
We’re in Dumfries for a wee break, the first in a long time, and amazingly we lucked out with the weather today. We took a drive down to Caerlaverock Castle which is quite impressive in a moated, triangular, ruined kind of way then headed to the nearby nature reserve and wetlands area. It was a great afternoon for a walk and we wandered the Reedbed Ramble and Merse March, described as a ‘grassy, rough, boggy and wet, narrow path.’ Yep, they’ve got that right! Was hoping to see a lot of birds but I guess it was the wrong time of day in the wrong season, although we did eventually spot a large flock of Barnacle geese way, way in the distance.
It was pretty much dark by 4:30 and we were walked out anyway so headed back to town and our hotel. The room is good but our dinner wasn’t. Might have to be pizza tomorrow.
