Heroes or villains
A bit of a nostalgic trip to Kinneil Estate today, and a walk around some of the paths we used to explore as kids. I can remember being fascinated when I found out that James Watt developed his steam boiler, tucked away in a remote part of the estate, now however the reality is he unwittingly contributed a huge amount to global warming, by his pioneering work, which accelerated industrial development especially in coal mining. It’s interesting that his isolated cottage where he worked in secret now overlooks Grangemouth with its sprawling Petrochemical complex and across the forth is the now redundant Longannet Power Station, once the biggest producer of green house gasses in Northern Europe. The extras are his cottage and the power station and to show it’s not all bad some dappled Autumn light on a leave covered path, which incidentally was part of the return path for racing cars taking part in the annual Kinneil Hill Climb.
