The Fast and The Slow
A lot of things we are taught as children will accompany us for the reast of our lives. When I was a child I was taught never to damage moss or lichen as their growth rate was so slow that the wound would be visible to the next generations. Still today, when I live in a warmer climate where the moss grows fast enough to be able to become a nuisiance, I can't remove even the tiniest moss without remembering my parents' warning and feeling protective towards that patiently growing plant. That is why to me there is such a beautiful contrast in the slow growing moss and the superfast growing mushroom fruiting body -which ofcourse we picked joyfully!
