Hughenden Manor

Today we seemed to have elements of all the seasons. Weather ranged from chilly winds and a snow shower through to genuinely warm sunshine and blue sky.

We took a trip out to Hughenden Manor, the one time home of the Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli, now in the hands of the National Trust. It is relatively local but somewhere we'd never actually visited. The majority of the house contained Disraeli artifacts but the basement told a different story, the role of the house in World War 2. Hughenden was a secret mapping centre where reconnaissance photos were 'translated' into detailed maps for bombing raids over Germany.

As ever with these things it was fascinating to see what went on. Nice sandwiches in the cafe too!
