Armistice Day
It was certainly more eventful than usual! Firstly we were told about the cockerel having fallen off the war memorial obelisk, but it had been fixed. Then the kid who was supposed to lay the flower arrangement fainted. He was attended to by the pompiers present as the mayor announced the UK national anthem.
Then after the French national anthem the names of the war dead were being read aloud, and a woman walked around the square with a large suitcase, put it into her car, tooted her horn and tried to drive down the closed off streets which were full of people at the service! Both French and English stood together blocking her route, telling her to have some respect. It didn’t work, she had none.
The fainted kid woke up, and he and his parents were comforted when Mr F told them he had seen plenty of soldiers do the same thing, and we went home for rotisseried roast lamb, joined by our friends.
