Poppies (and our Edley)

I really like the paper poppies, they're a lovely design - I don't think you can better them.

In our box at work this year there were also a few of the plastic ones on a clip, and a few lapel pins with the year on.  Less variety than usual - I seem to think we used to get much more poppy merch. Most colleagues seem to choose a paper poppy, although the lapel pins are also highly prized by one or two. Hopefully there's a decent collection in the tin.

Today I remembered our Edley, technically my grandfather's uncle, but more like a close cousin as they were only a few years apart in age. Edley was a Sheffield steelworker, who was killed on the Western Front in 1915, aged 21. I remember his name because when I was very small and my grandad had 'confusion' related to his illness, he thought he saw Edley walking past the foot of his bed.  He was delighted and was waving to him, saying "Look, there's Our Edley."  When I said "Where?", my uncle explained, "Nowhere,  Edley died in the first world war." (Truth be told, I was on my grandad's side - I think he saw Edley. I hope he did.)
