Derwent Water
Derwent Water, is one of the principal lakes in the Lake District in Cumbria lying immediately to the South of Keswick.
Spending a few days enjoying the contrasting scenery and culture of Cumbria. And as I visit a number of towns in the Lake District two thoughts spring to mind. Firstly, almost every shop, bar and hotel has a notice in the window advertising for staff. An area that is so dependent on tourism has been shafted by Brexit - yet Cumbria voted to leave the EU by over 70%. It would be interesting to know ‘why’ and whether they have remorse.
Secondly England is a world leader in the number COVID cases and deaths and despite that there appears now to be complete disregard for the science in people’s activity in shops, pubs and hotels. Whereas some staff wear masks in these establishments patrons don’t because it is not mandatory. So the staff that are wearing masks are protecting their patrons but they remain unprotected. Unlike Scotland breakfast buffets in hotels are laid out for unmasked punters to cough over and social distancing is virtually non existent. It’s scary! We continue to wear masks to make a point but it makes no impact.
