Day 92: Gamelan Strips
Heavier metal in large
I teased these last week (with "O" - the odd one out at the left).
These are my gamelan strips; they weigh about 6kg (they're made of thick diamond plate steel) but sound much less heavy and industrial than they look... "O" is finished differently from the others, and its fundamental sounds an octave below the low "C" of the octave set, although O's sound is rather more harmonically rich and jangly than the higher octave. The strips are 14 separate plates, and I have them sitting on acoustic foam so that they can ring out.
They're a creation of "Morfbeats" in Denver Colorado, made by designers/makers (and brothers) Adam and Austin Morford.
