Remembrance 11
Spotted on our walk today, HMS Ledbury was the first of the Hunt-class minehunters, and commissioned in June 1981 some twenty-two years before I left, that makes her an old lady.
One of the Navy’s smaller ship she is home to around 47 crew members.
With a glass-reinforced plastic hull to give a low signature to sea-mines forty years ago she was cutting edge.
Recently relieved as part of four-strong MCMV force permanently based in the Middle East she is probably enjoying a well earned break outside of the confines of a Royal Dockyard although I’m not certain they enjoy themselves in quite the same way we did!
The walk blew away the cobwebs of yesterday and it was good to spend some time with Mrs S. Catch up of the backlog of recorded TV programmes in the evening and an early night.
