Poppies and soldiers at Hampton Court
A very impressive display.
Silhouettes of 100 Tommies and 25 Indian soldiers are on display with 75 giant poppy wreaths in the gardens of Hampton Court. It was a lovely sunny morning so we decided to go early when it opened..hence no one else in the photo. I’m sure it will be much busier next weekend after more publicity.
All were handmade from scrap metal by the artist Dan Barton.
The display is to represent almost 1800 Indian soldiers who sailed to Britain in 1919 to take part in the WW1 peace parade in London and were encamped in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace for the duration of their stay. Also see the extras where you can see turbans on Sikh soldiers.
These were on display at Blenheim Palace last year.
