A day of boats
With friends staying over the weekend we lunched at the Boat Shed Cafe (the penguin sign is for real as they do frequent the Port sometimes) and took a tour around the Port where there were three fishing boats.
The Blue and white is an Australian Toothfish fishing boat that fishes in Antartica in 2000 metres of water using longline with 60,000 hooks.
The red hulled boat is a local fishing boat that catches fish in relatively local water.
The long hulled blue boat with the tall mast is a Tuna boat with the mast holding a lookout for shoals of Tuna.
The smaller boats and the stork are at Port Mapua where we had gone for coffee and to browse the stores.
The Stork is not real but a replica of a stork that was an annual visit to Mapua for many years and when one year it did not arrive it was decided to have a model in its memory.
