Bruce in the bush

Good news from last night’s volleyball match, with the team winning in four sets (25-18, 25-21, 19-25, 25-16) as the two sides promoted diversity and inclusion in a GNAC Unity Game. Every GNAC institution hosts a GNAC Unity Game each year to strengthen its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. “Before yesterday’s game, SFU and WOU players renewed their NCAA Student-Athlete Unity Pledge to be a Champion of Unity on their teams, campuses and communities.
“Constantin Lozitsky, a fourth-year international student and member of Out On Campus at SFU, spoke pregame to the audience about her hope for a more inclusive world where LGBTQ+ people in our communities feel supported. 'We all deserve to be safe and seen and feel like ourselves," said Lozitsky, who came to Canada from Russia in search of a more welcoming and inclusive environment.’ (Source: SFU Athletics article)
Great that these young people are aware of the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion.
The forecast was for rain today but suddenly the sky cleared, the sun came out, and we went for a walk in the forest with Renata, Krista and Bruce. Krista is working on an assignment for one of her courses, and she’s chosen the topic of Wisdom. We talked about the difference between  knowledge and wisdom and how wisdom can come many sources, nature included. There we were, four educators enjoying nature and talking about the interconnectedness of all things, a very rewarding and deep conversation. We saw the base camp of the Langley forest school for preschoolers and how wonderful it is for the young ones to be educated outdoors when so many children spend so little time in nature these days.
After lunch, Renata and I did a few things in town. Krista and Dan came over for Thai food for dinner, and now we’re relaxing and some are watching the hockey game. Kalyn and the team are decorating the change room for Seniors’ Night tomorrow night, so we’re not sure if she’s coming over later.
Anyway, I’d written a better version of this earlier but the wifi here is erratic and I lost it.  Oh well.
Looking forward to Seniors’ Night tomorrow and the two seniors being honoured for their dedication and hard work to the team. It will be emotional!
Extras:

The tree hugger
Ferns growing out of a stump
The same ferns with a top view of them
A pumpkin and a plaque on the table in the base camp recognizing that the school is operating on the traditional territories of the local First Nations.
