In 1843 the English garden was laid out on the Bolwerk to a design by Lucas Pieters Roodbaard.

In 2009 the park was renovated. During the refurbishment, a bunker that was part of the Atlantic Wall was also temporarely visible. This "Gefechtstand Engelsche Tuin" served as the command post for connections(1940-1945). There are three more gun bunkers (Tobruk) in the park.
