Our day out
We felt confident enough to go to Exeter today on the train. We haven’t been for over 2 years, so while we were in the big city we bought some necessities like sealing wax, baling twine and boot studs. We also went in our favourite shops and cafes - the Exploding Bakery for great coffee and cakes was our first port of call. Jacqui is admiring Waterstones excellent window display which features Paul McCartneys book ‘the Lyrics.’ This is my birthday present designate.
The main reason for our trip though was to attend an author talk at Exeter Library as part of the Exeter Literary Festival. The author was Hazel Prior talking about her books, and especially ‘Away with the Penguins’. This is feel good fiction, or ‘uplit’ (uplifting fiction). Hazel is a harpist, and as well as taking about her work she also played the harp. It was a fabulous talk. I listened intently, thoroughly entertained, though I couldn’t help thinking about a pint of Guinness. You can see Hazel in the extra photo.
