Past Steps Into The Present

These steps at one time formed part of the large formal gardens to Preston Hall, a manorial home and estate less than half a mile away from our house. It has long since been given over to housing.
Where these steps would once have led to sweeping lawns and vistas with maybe the odd peacock strolling across the green sward there is now just a view of a rather utilitarian block of flats. For some strange reason I quite like the contrast. Where the sightline would have perhaps focused on a statue or decorative obelisk your eye is now drawn towards that rather forlorn little while door!
