Peak District

Friday
Today, we drove over to Grindleford in Derbyshire to meet up with my brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Judy. Judy has been through a rough time this year, having surgery for breast cancer, and then later needing a second surgery to remove a haematoma. Then she will be receiving radiotherapy once six weeks is up after the second surgery. Even before this, they were being extremely cautious regarding Covid. So originally we weren’t scheduled to see them this visit. However my sister-in-law Janet had some spare lateral flow tests and suggested maybe Judy would be OK with seeing us if we took a test before we went. It was a beautiful day, so Judy agreed to meet up for a walk. The drive across the Pennines was so beautiful in the sunshine. We went for a nice gentle walk along the Derwent, doing a bit of catching up. We were sorry not to have more time with them, but hopefully next year!
Once they had left us and returned home, we decided since the weather was so nice, we would stay in the area, and went off in search of a pub lunch, which we enjoyed sitting out in the sun. Now and again, clouds would cover up the sun, and it would feel quite a bit cooler, but then it would come out again! We then went for a gorgeous walk along one of a number of gritstone edges in the Peak District National Park. I had been heading for Froggatt Edge, but without a detailed map, I think we ended up on White Edge. As we walked, we heard what we initially thought were cows mooing, but later, having seen a couple looking at deer through their binoculars, we realized the sound was actually the bucks bellowing. We saw quite a number of deer in the distance, but they blended well amidst the grasses and bracken. In the evening we went out for dinner with Bernard and Janet and John
