Cessna In Grey Skies
Horrible day for flying a light aircraft. Soon after I took this shot the sky darkened and it started pouring. The flight only lasted about fifteen minutes. One doesn't see many light aircraft aloft when the weather is bad and visibility is poor as many private pilots are licensed only to fly under visual flight rules. If they wish to fly in poor visibility they have to have an instrument rating and to fly at night they need a night rating. To take paying passengers a commercial licence is required.
It is shocking that the pilot of the plane, which crashed on the night of January 21st 2019 with footballer Emiliano Sala on board killing them both, had only a simple Private Pilot Licence. His rating to fly the Piper Malibu had expired. Shocking also that it seems that the person who arranged for the pilot to do the flight knew this.
