Street art

Today we joined a free art tour of Valencia. When I say free, there was an expectation that the those attending would pay the guide the amount that they thought the tour was worth. The guide was pretty good i have to say and spoke good English. She clearly knew her stuff and gave a detailed account of the different forms of street art and how these differed ie Graphic design v 'muralism' v graffiti. She also covered some of the background stories behind the artists involved.

Today's blip shows the guide in mid flow in front of one of the art works. One thing that stood out for me was the fact that the artists in Valencia didn't seem to rate Banksy who they thought had sold out. What he does is not considered 'pure' as he tends to work with stencils which gives him the luxury of working partly in a studio. The street artists in Valencia by contrast work more spontaneously often illegally (in the middle of the night) and often with the police breathing down their necks.
