a lifetime burning

Early start

Last night's weather forecast suggested that we would have a foggy start this morning.  In the event it was at best misty, as you can see from this shot. Still, one benefit of the lack of fog was a bit of a sunrise, although it was surprisingly cold, and frosty first thing.

It is a lovely feeling being out and about early when almost no one else is up.  The world seems much emptier somehow.  I came across just one dog walker, and otherwise saw no one during the first hour or so of the day.  It was largely silent other than for the noise made by the crows as they started to wake up and caw at each other.

If you look carefully on the right of the image you will see that there is an overhead power line.  When I first arrived at this spot a long line of crows were roosting on it.  I don't know whether this is because it is a bit warmer than the branches of a tree, or whether they were hoping to catch the first warming rays of the sun after the cold night?  Either way, they didn't hang around once I arrived and started setting up my tripod :-)
