I've only seen the Red-backed Wren a few times. Recently I glimpsed it in the grassland behind Boulder Beach, and went out this morning in the hope of getting photos. This male was very keen to have his photo taken.

Australian wrens are not related to northern hemisphere wrens, despite the similarities. One of my bird books observes that:
Australia's pert small birds of captivating ways with long tails cocked over their backs inevitably became known as wrens (D&M Trounson). 

And Wikipedia says, about Australian wrens:
Their obvious similarity to the wrens of Europe and America is not genetic, but simply the consequence of convergent evolution between more-or-less unrelated species that share the same ecological niche.
